Description
The infrared counting sensor module is used to count or detect objects passing through the U-shaped (5MM) detector posts.
PACKAGE INCLUDES:Infrared counting sensor module
KEY FEATURES OF THE INFRARED COUNTING SENSOR MODULE MODULE:IR transmitter/receiver pairLM393 comparator circuit for clean detectionLED indicator of detection:3.3 and 5V compatible
The module has an IR transmitter and receiver pair that face each other in a U-shaped housing. An object passing through these posts refracts the IR beam.
These modules are most commonly used to count something as it passes through the posts. This could be gears on a wheel if it is counting revolutions or RPM, or something like pellets falling through a chute if it is part of a pellet stove or rabbit feeder. Another use is as an optical limit switch or to detect when something is open or closed by causing an object to move into or out of the beam.
The sensor output is normally LOW and the red LED on the module will normally be on. If the IR beam is broken between the posts the output will go HIGH and the LED will go off.
Module ConnectionsThe module has a 3-pin header for making connections.
1 x 3 header
GND – GroundOUT – Output, normally LOW. Becomes HIGH when IR beam is interruptedVCC – 3.3 – 5VThe module has two mounting holes.
While this module is similar in functionality to lower cost Light Block Sensor Modules, the Infrared Counting Sensor Module has much higher and wider detector posts and an LM393 comparator circuit making it more robust and flexible in applications where it can be used.
